Not included in the original documents made available by the council, but extremely pertinent to their proposals is this comparative costing of Sutton Coldfield library and Mere Green library.
Birmingham City Council have produced several documents in support of their library proposals, which can all be accessed here.
Some “highlights” include these:
Proposed “extended” hours at Mere Green – actually only a pilot, and these extended hours would not be staffed by librarians, only by security staff, thereby restricting who can actually access the library (for example, it’s unlikely unaccompanied children would be allowed in during these hours)
Proposed introduction of fees to reserve books. This would apply to reserving books from another library in the city, and would not apply to children reserving books.
